The homeowners of this newly purchased home wanted to expand the living room space into an adjacent bedroom. This required the removal of an existing bearing wall and providing a new lintel and jamb posts. We also need to add new steel posts and footings in the basement area to accommodate the loading.

Projects With Other Engineering Firms:

Madia Office Building

Wexford, PA

This project was a three-story, 47,600 square foot office building. The second and third floors were constructed of steel beams and girders while the roof was constructed of open web steel joists and steel girders. The roof deck consisted of    1½” metal roof deck and the second and third floors consisted of a 2½” regular weight concrete slab placed over 2” composite metal deck. A spread footing foundation system was utilized.

 

Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Building 119

Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation, West Milton, NY - Kesselring Site

This project consisted of a storage area that is a 10,800 SF single story structure with overhead cranes, a high bay work area that is 3,800 SF with overhead cranes with 2 areas of the roof with removeable hatches to lower equipment through the roof and onto the floor slab below for equipment maintenance and an attached 2 story mechanical equipment/office building that is 4,200 SF. All 3 structures are steel framed. The floor slab for the storage area was designed to support a uniform live load of 1,500 psf while the high bay work area slab was designed for uniform live loads that ranged from 3,000 psf to 11,500 psf. 

Waynesburg University Student Dormitory

Waynesburg, PA

This project was a $8.6 million structure which consisted of a six-story, 45,000

square foot men’s dormitory. The roof and floors were constructed of pre-cast plank which is supported by reinforced masonry shear walls. Grade beams and caissons were utilized for the foundation system with a concrete slab-on-grade.

UPMC Independent Living Facility

Bethel Park, PA

This project consisted of a 90,700 SF four story independent living facility. The roof and floors are constructed of pre-cast plank which is supported by reinforced masonry walls. The foundation system was constructed of spread footings with a concrete slab on

grade.

ALCOSAN New Customer Service & Training Building

Pittsburgh, PA

This project was a $6.8 million “green” building which consisted of a two-story, 20,000 square foot customer service and training center. The second floor and roof were constructed of steel beams and girders. The roof deck consisted of 1 ½” metal roof deck and the second floor consisted of a 2 ½” regular weight concrete slab placed over 2” composite metal deck. Grade beams and piles/piles cap were utilized for the foundation system with a concrete slab-on-grade.

Department of Veteran Affairs 

VAMC Butler, PA

This project consisted of 5 separate structures for a Domiciliary Expansion. All five buildings were wood framed structures. The five buildings had a combined total of 37,200 square feet and were designated as: Bldg. 'A1' (2 story, 7,000 sf), Bldg 'A2' (2 story, 7,000 sf), Bldg. 'B' (2 story, 5,400 sf), Bldg. 'C' (single story, 5,800 sf) and Bldg. 'D' (single story, 12,000 sf).

This project involved designing a new patio roof with a vaulted ceiling for an open design concept along with recessed lighting and a ceiling fan. We utilized scissor trusses to accomplish this open design concept.
